I was inspired to write this post by Zoe. Zoe is a little girl who turns three (3) in a couple of weeks.
…as I eagerly made my way to her class window to peep, I heard a loud voice “Daddy! Daddy!” I won't lie, my head swell! Why? As someone who works in a school, I don't get the luxury of picking her myself.
I collected her lunchbag from her teacher and we both made our way to the car. She was on my shoulder and it felt good!
As I turned the house key counterclockwise, she bolted in and...
“Daddy bag, assignment inside bag”. My wife helped her unzip the first compartment and Zoe said “It's not here”. My wife unzipped the larger compartment and she said “There it is assignment”. Zoe grabs her chair enthusiastically, sits down and asks for her crayon. It was later I realised most of her homework required colouring as a major skill.
Now I am thinking about what has just happened!
Then I remembered, that once my wife and I entered the door after a long day at our different jobs, we would bring out our laptops before we ate dinner. During weekends, we would spend 60% of our time working (we both work in the education sector).
Zoe is picking up on these little things called attitude to work!
The truth is as parents, we are busy! The economy demands you work to put your child in a comfortable place. However, if you see your child's behaviour (learning) as important, you will put things in place and learn new habits that you will be proud of when he/she emulates it as second nature (without you telling him/her to do it).
Remember, start with the small things!
